Original recipe @ http://www.peta.org/living/vegetarian-living/recipes/shepherd-s-pie.aspx

My tweaked version:

5 medium potatoes, diced
2 Tbsp. vegan butter
¼ cup vanilla soy milk
¼ medium onion, finely chopped
12 oz. faux ground beef-style crumbles (Boca)
2 10.5-oz. can Campbells mushroom gravy
1 can corn, drained
1 can peas, drained
1 can carrots, drained
1 bag of Daiya shredded cheese
Salt, garlic powder, pepper, onion powder, to taste

• Boil the potatoes for 20 minutes, or until tender. Drain and mash with the butter and soy milk
• In a medium pan, sauté the onion.
• Cook crumbles in pan til done. then mix onions in crumbles.
• Spread ½ of potatoes thinly on pan. Add garlic, salt and pepper to taste.
• Pour 1 can of gravy evenly.
• Pour peas, crumbles, carrots, and corn, 1 layer at a time adding salt and pepper to taste.
• Add other can of gravy evenly
•Spread other ½ of potatoes, thinly,  on top. Add salt, pepper
•Add cheese on top
• Bake in a 350°F oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until the potatoes are browned and the crumble mixture bubbles out the edges.

Hint: for the potatoes, I took a spatula and pressed in into the pan for it to be even and for the top, I pressed the potatoes down into a thin layer and then transferred it to the top of the mix.

Really, world?

One. It’s not a diet like you tagged it to be.
Two. If you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. No need to bump people who do. It’s not my fault your spending money for food that you could get for free. It’s not my fault that you don’t want to help out the world you’re living in by taking food so it doesn’t go into the landfills. It’s not my fault you don’t have an adventurous life. And it’s definitely not my fault you’re a closed minded person.

Dive!

wow! such an eye opener! I started Dumpster Diving to get food in our time of need. But it’s so much more than that. I feel like crying my eyes are open that much. just wow.

Even if you don’t agree with Dumspter Diving itself, the film has more to offer. Like did you know that we waste ½ of the food that’s produced? And instead of throwing away millions pounds of food, that the companies could just donate it instead?

It’s certainly amazing.
